A Florida man spent 40 days in jail for a murder he didn’t commit, even though he claimed he maintained his innocence from the start and provided the authorities with the information needed to clear him.
“You’re guilty until proven innocent,” said Anthony Colvert regarding his ordeal.
The Composite Sketch
Colvert was arrested in March for the February shooting of Anthony Murray, a tourist in town to visit his grandparents. Police released a composite sketch of the shooter and were led to Colvert by a tip from Crime Stoppers.
Despite the admitted resemblance between the sketch and Colvert’s booking photo, Colvert said his fiancé helped the police obtain cell phone records and receipts to prove an alibi.
"From day one of questioning and from the date of the arrest, information was given to them to go after and try to solve the case properly," said Lydia Jones, Colvert’s fiancé.
Colvert said he didn’t know the victim and had never had contact with him.
