The man was falsely accused of sexually assaulting a 15-year-old girl in 1994.
Man Falsely Accused and Sentenced
Dean Cage, 41, was accused of sexually assaulting a minor who was walking home from school in Chicago’s South Side.
Eyewitnesses claimed the Cage was the one who attacked the girl and he was sentenced by jury to 40 years in prison.
Innocence Proven
The Innocence Project, which investigates wrongful convictions across the country, has been reportedly investigating Cage’s case for years.
After finding that the initial DNA tests were no definitive, they demanded another round of tests to be administered.
The second round of DNA tests found Cage was innocent of the assault and after several court hearings he was released from his sentence.
“I have my life back,” Cage told reporters. “It means the world to me. I never had a doubt. I am happy and blessed.”
