"Kansas DUI laws change in response to campaigning by victim’s parents"
Kansas DUI laws have become stricter and will go into effect July 1, 2003. The Kansas DUI laws now give state judges the authority to order cars in DUI cases immobilized or impounded for up to a year even in cases of first offenses and even if the driver does not own the car.
After a yearlong stay, a driver under the new Kansas DUI law could pay between $5,110 and $9,125 to get the car back depending on what city has seized the vehicle. If the costs are not paid, the lot owners can sell the cars to recover costs. Many people are concerned that the Kansas DUI laws will instead punish relatives and families of convicted DUI offenders that are borrowing the family car.
