$1.75M Settlement Reached in Case Against LA

A settlement was recently reached in a case brought against the city of Los Angeles for the wrongful imprisonment of an innocent man.

The man reportedly spent 14 years in prison for a crime he didn’t commit and took action upon his release.

Man Falsely Accused of Murder

Eric Robinson was one of two men who were found to be guilty for the 1993 murder of Edward Fuentes.

The federal court dismissed the charges against Robinson and Lavont Gillory after DNA evidence proved their innocence.

The main detective in the case, Sgt. Mark Ameson, was also found guilty of racketeering charges in the case.

Victims Takes Action with Suits

Robinson filed a suit against the city of Los Angeles only months after he was released from prison after serving 14 years.

Gillory received a $1 million settlement in the suit he filed, which was also against the city for his wrongful imprisonment.

Due to the involvement of the Ameson and other factors, the attorneys for the men believe their payout could end up going even higher.
