Minnesota Man Charged with Assault

A Willmar, Minnesota man was charged Dec. 11 with fifth-degree assault and disorderly conduct for using a "supersoaker" squirt gun filled with fox urine to spray a group of teenagers on his property when they apparently came to toilet-paper his house on a September night. Willmar, a rural community with a population of about 19,000, is approximately 95 miles west of Minneapolis/St. Paul.

Misdemeanor Charges

Scott Wagar, 50, pleaded guilty to the misdemeanor charges in Kandiyohi County District Court and was released on personal recognizance. He told the police that he was fed up with area teenagers toilet-papering and eggs his house during homecoming week for the past eight years — that it was more destructive every year — and that he decided to defend his property this year.

Stinky But Harmless

According to the local sheriff, at about 10:30 p.m. the night of Sept.16, Wagar used night vision goggles he'd gotten from his son in the military to target 15–20 people running toward his property. Wagar says that he told the people to leave and sprayed them with a mixture of one-third fox urine and two-thirds water, which he concocted because "it stinks, but it doesn't hurt anything."

The next day, Wagar reported to the sheriff that he had gotten into an altercation with one of the intruders that had grabbed him from behind the night before, and that he might have broken the individual's finger. In addition, one of the teens left his cell phone behind near Wagar's property; Wagar turned the phone over to the police.
