Montana DUI Laws

September 28, 2003
"Harsh Montana DUI laws aim to stop repeat offenders"

After the Mother’s Against Drunk Driving gave Montana a failing grade in 2002, pressure to pass stricter laws mounted and laws were passed, fines were increased, and maximum prison sentences were doubled. As of April 2003, a new law has been in tact but has not been noticeable until recently as people charged with DUIs have since been convicted and sentenced.

The police have been confiscating cars of DUI offenders that will either be turned over to the lien holder or sold at the city’s annual auction. The harsh DUI action is intended to take an “element of the equation” out according to a Montana County DUI Task Force Coordinator.
