Bronx Man Falsely Arrested

Bronx Man Falsely Arrested

A former teacher has filed a suit against the city of New York for his false arrest that led him to suffer both financially and mentally.

The man claims investigators in the case ignored obvious evidence that proved his innocence in the case involving a prank email thought to be sent by him.

E-mail Hoax Leads to Arrest

William Hallowell, 24, who created a Web site against violence and other social ills among young people, was arrested after authorities seized an email containing racial slurs, admissions of suicidal thoughts and words of sexual harassment.

Hallowell says the threatening email sent at the Riverdale County School Library wasn’t from him and he was framed.

Innocent Man Accused

According to reports, the supervisor of the library prompted the arrest after sending an e-mail that was intended for Hallowell to the wrong address.

The first clue that it was not Hallowell who wrote the email was the fact that the sender identified himself as Ben Hallowell, and his first name is Billy.

Even though none of Hallowell’s accounts contained the offensive email sent, police still arrest him and took him into their custody for two days.

“Any minimally competent police officer would have realized immediately that the offending email was from a Ben Hallowell, not from Billy Hallowell,” says the suit.
