O.J. Simpson: Jury Selection for His Kidnapping/Robbery Trial Begins

On Sept. 8, the jury selection process began for the trial of O.J. Simpson, the 61-year-old ex-football star who was acquitted of the murders of his ex-wife and her friend in 1995. Simpson is facing trial in Las Vegas on charges that include burglary, robbery, kidnapping and assault with a deadly weapon at the Palace Station Hotel & Casino following an attempted robbery in September 2007.

Judge: This Trial Is Not About the ’95 Murders

In the Clark County courtroom of Judge Jackie Glass, most of the 87 members of the potential-jury panel indicated that they were familiar with Simpson’s acquittal. She cautioned the prospective jurors, “If you are here and think you are going to punish Mr. Simpson for what happened in 1995, this is not the case for you.”

Robbery, Assault of Memorabilia Dealers

Simpson and five other men went to the casino in September 2007, allegedly, to confront some memorabilia dealers about certain objects. Four of the men agreed to testify for the prosecution; the fifth, CJ Stewart, is Simpson’s co-defendant. Simpson and his attorney, Yale Galanter, maintain that Simpson did not know that anyone had brought guns to the dealers’ room.
