Personal alcohol screeners a safety precaution or pushing the drinking limit?

After a University of Iowa law-school grad interned for a DUI attorney, he created the Alcohawk personal alcohol screeners with a friend to detect and prevent drunk driving.

Critics of the device believe it may instead push people to drink until the legal limit, or encourage games, but the Alcohawk models have earned FDA and Department of Transportation clearance for accuracy. Some law-enforcement officials use the device as a preliminary DUI screener, as well as parents and friends.

Experts caution that just because a person blows a legal limit into an alcohol-screening device it does not mean their levels will not continue to rise, eventually pushing them over the limit
