A man who was falsely accused of raping and robbing a woman in Michigan in 1994 was recently proven innocent and released from jail.
The man’s innocence was proven by DNA testing, which showed he could not have been the man who broke into the victim’s home.
Man Charged with Rape and Robbery
Ken Wyniemko spent more than a decade in a jail in Macomb County for rape convictions.
Wyniemko, who worked as a manager of a bowling alley, was charged with breaking into a 28-year-old woman’s home and repeatedly raping her.
He was also accused of stealing $2,500 from the woman’s purse.
Innocent Man Given Back Freedom
Last week, Wyniemko finally saw justice served when DNA from the crime scene was proven not to match his DNA.
“I’ve been waiting 14 years for this information to come out,” says Wyniemko. “It’s very important. Not only did the police and prosecutors cost me 10 years of my life, but so did the guy who did it and he knew all along that I was innocent. That’s just not fair.”
