Elected SF Official Falsely Accused

The recent arrest of an elected official in San Francisco has reportedly turned into a legal struggle over police accountability.

The man was arrested after being accused of using a $100 bill that was counterfeit.

Activist Arrested

Rodel Rodis, a Filipino activist and elected trustee of the City College in San Francisco, was reportedly arrested in 2003 for paying with a $100 bill thought to be counterfeit.

Reports claim that Rodis was purchasing items at a local Walgreens when he was dragged to the police station.

Once there, it was determined that the bill was, in fact, real.

Victim Takes Action

Rodis immediately filed a $250,000 claim against the city, and the police who were involved in his false arrest.

He claimed the policemen at the scene used excessive force and were negligent of his emotional distress.

“Part of my mind was saying...’I’m not going to argue. I’m not going to resist,” explains Rodis. “I put my hands behind my back but I’m thinking, ‘This has to be a mistake. Somebody here has to have some sense.’”

City Seeks Appeal in Case

According to reports, the San Francisco City Attorney’s Office is seeking an appeal in the case, which critics say could be an expensive fight.

The Attorney’s Office is looking to take their appeal to the conservative U.S. Supreme Court and overturn what would be an acceptable ruling in the liberal city of San Francisco.
