Sex Offenders May Be Out of Work
Two state lawmakers are seeking to end work release privileges of convicted sex offenders.
Scott Suder and Mark Honadel of Wisconsin took the escape of Verne Hahn, a convicted child sex offender, seriously. They proposed a bill that would end work release privileges for sex offenders who were awaiting sentencing.
The bill would also impose a minimum sentence of 25 years in child sex assault cases. This proposed bill, Suder says, “would protect the public from these monsters.”
This measure has gained support by local candidates and political figures who compare this new law to “Jessica’s Law.”
Jessica’s Law is one of the toughest child sex assault laws in the nation. It was named after the rape and murder of 9-year-old Jessica Lunsford.
Many political figures that support this proposed bill say that new laws that protect children must be passed without delay.
