The Supreme Court recently made a ruling that will uphold a new federal law regarding child pornography.
This new law supposedly makes it a crime to send and receive messages via the computer that offer or seek various types of child pornography.
Trying to Track Down Child Pornographers
The ruling reportedly gives prosecutors a tool so they are enabled to go after those who talk about child pornography online.
It will also take away the defense that certain conversations and materials are simply computer images, not actually depictions of real children engaging in sexual acts.
Court in Atlanta Appeals Ruling
The U.S. Appeals Court in Atlanta, GA, reportedly appealed the new law saying that it is too broad.
They also are arguing that it is in violation of free-speech rights, which is essentially what the U.S. prides themselves on.
Justice Antonin Scalia rejected claims that the law could apply a “criminal” title to someone who offers a “harmless picture to someone else of their child in the bathtub.”
