State officials that such action will help to decrease cases involving wrongfully convicted and imprisoned residents of Texas.
Integrity Unit Announced
The Texas Criminal Appeals Judge, Barbara Harvey, recently announced the creation and development of an integrity unit.
This unit will reportedly help fix various glitches in the justice systems that currently exist.
It’s these types of problems that are responsible for repeatedly wrongfully convicting innocent people.
Trying to Fix an Error Filled System
Attorneys in Texas claim that over the years it’s been evident how the state’s highest criminal court has paid too much attention to the process as opposed to justice.
A long line of embarrassing rulings have also been cited, such as a time when a decision found nothing wrong with an attorney who reportedly slept through his client’s capital murder trial.
Court’s Mistakes Highlighted
The court’s overall dysfunction has also been highlighted through new technology and revolutionary DNA advancements.
In the year 2000 alone, thirty-three Texans were exonerated through DNA evidence.
