Racial Profiling Blamed for Wrongful Arrest

Two residents of Texas recently filed a suit claiming that they were wrongfully arrested for checks they didn’t forge.

The plaintiffs were reportedly thrown in jail despite their pleas and proof of innocence and they are now accusing the police department of arresting them because of their race.

Arrest for Check Forgery

The victims, two African-American brothers, reportedly went to the Stafford Stone Company to purchase stone using a Wachovia Bank check.

After the salesman called the bank and was told the check was fake, Stafford police placed both men under arrest.

According to reports, the brothers spent two days in jail following the initial arrest.

Brothers Released After Innocence Realized

After the police department realized that a mistake had been made and the men didn’t, in fact, try to use fake checks, they were released from jail.

“I was really upset. I’ve never been arrested in my life. My family didn’t know what where I was or why I was locked up,” explained one of the men, who works as a telecom executive.
