Teresa Williams
Teresa Williams is one of 21 Board Certified Criminal Trial Lawyers in Ft. Lauderdale. Out of those 21, five are prosecutors. Ms. Williams is the only female Board Certified Criminal Lawyer in Broward County. Board Certification is a program designed by the Florida Bar to help the public make an informed decision when seeking and selecting a lawyer. Certification is the highest level of recognition by the Florida Bar of the competency and experience of attorneys. Only a Board Certified Criminal Trial Attorney may refer to themselves as an expert or a specialist in the area of criminal law.
In addition to the acknowledgment of her credentials by the Florida Bar, Teresa Williams is also “AV” rated by Martindale Hubbell. Martindale Hubbell is a private corporation, which rates attorneys based on the confidential responses of other lawyers. “AV” is the highest rating, which indicates that the attorney is exceptionally qualified.
Teresa Williams is a former prosecutor. When Ms. Williams left the Miami-Dade County State Attorney’s Office, she was the Division Chief of the Career Criminal Robbery Unit, where she supervised 15 attorneys in the most trial active unit in the Office. She spent two years working exclusively on Sexual Battery and Child Abuse cases. After leaving Dade County, Ms. Williams worked for the Attorney General’s Office as a State-wide Prosecutor, concentrating on pharmaceutical fraud, medical fraud, and racketeering prosecutions. Knowing how the prosecution thinks is a very valuable asset, which she utilizes effectively in her private practice, protecting the constitutional rights of the accused.
Teresa Williams has tried over 50 cases, including a nationally televised murder trial on Court TV. She has been very successful in types of cases, where one may find a female criminal lawyer to be preferable – such as Domestic Violence and Sexual Battery. Ms. Williams has tried many different types of crimes, such as Trafficking, Possession of Controlled Substances, DUI Manslaughter, Capital Sexual Battery, Armed Robbery, Kidnapping, Theft, Organized Scheme to Defraud, and Murder, just to name a few. Ms. Williams also provides representation for pre-arrest contact with law enforcement, Injunction Hearings, and Motions to Seal or Expunge.
Patrick Trese
Patrick Trese is an experienced criminal attorney. Originally from Michigan, Mr. Trese moved to Florida in 2001 and began working for as a prosecutor with the Miami-Dade State Attorney’s Office. During that time, he handled a vast array of criminal cases, including murder, traffic homicide and capital sexual battery offenses.
Mr. Trese served as the Chief of County Court DUI Division for the Miami-Dade State Attorney’s Office. He was responsible for overseeing the prosecution of some 5,000 DUI cases per year and was responsible for directing the strategy employed by the State Attorney's Office in the area of DUI motion practice. He litigated various DUI related issues motions in 11th Circuit County Court Division, the 11th Circuit Court Division and at the 3rd District Court of Appeals. He has lectured on various DUI topics, including Uniform Material Witness Act and DUI, the "Source Code" and DUI, and legal challenges to the admissibility of breath, blood and urine test results.
Mr. Trese was also a member of the Traffic Homicide Unit for the Miami-Dade State Attorney's Office. As a member, he handled some of the most serious DUI Manslaughter and Vehicular Homicide cases in Miami-Dade County. Several of the cases he handled appeared on CNN and other media publications in the U.S. and internationally. He has also lectured on topics such as the admissibility of "forced" blood draws. Mr. Trese received the Prosecution of Distinction Award from Mother's Against Drunk Driving in 2009. Mr. Trese also tried several serial rapist and capital sexual battery cases while serving as a member of the Sexual Battery Unit/Child Abuse Unit for the Miami-Dade State Attorney's Office.
